Reims in one day
The essentials
- Three UNESCO monuments in the city: Notre-Dame Cathedral, Palace of Tau, Basilica of Saint-Remi (1991).
- UNESCO added the chalk cellars of the Saint-Nicaise hill in 2015.
- You can reach everything on foot or by public transport.
- Book house visits in advance.
Morning: the cathedral and the Palace of Tau
The kings of France were crowned in Notre-Dame Cathedral. The Palace of Tau next door displays its treasury. Allow two hours for both.
Midday: the Halles du Boulingrin
This Art Deco covered market works well for a simple lunch, a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral.
Afternoon: a house and its chalk cellars
The houses on the Saint-Nicaise hill open their crayères, former chalk quarries turned into cellars. Book a slot early in the afternoon.
End of the day: the Basilica of Saint-Remi
Quieter than the cathedral, it houses the tomb of Saint Remigius. The Saint-Remi Museum next door tells the story of the city.
